Great Rebecca,

I found it very helpful because I used to each and every word that also makes boring and tiresome.

Thanks again.

Hi Rebecca!

I think, that tip #4 (Leave white space around your notes) is not so good. I use this technique, but... so, I don't reccomend it.

I agree with you Daniel!

I do skimming when I'm reading; it's less time consuming and I can easily absorb the thought of the text. But in listening, there are certain words that I have to jot down (alien words) and the rest will be stock knowledge. This will test how good is your memory.

Don't read every word. For my Masters degree i had to read vast amounts of pdf article documents. I learned that if i read every other word i could still absorb all the information that i needed. The brain is an advanced piece of kit, it can fill in the gaps, therefore saving you a copious amount of time for other tasks. Such as, the bane of my life, reference lists.

These are some good tips for improving reading comprehension, especially the ones about jotting down some brief notes while reading. When I was in school, I used the note taking technique for the times when I had to write some sort of paper (book report, essay, etc.) based on the reading material. By sketching out a quick outline of the main ideas, I was able to write the paper much easier afterward and did not struggle with "writer's block" very much because I already had something written down that I could use as a starting point.
